"Waves of Sand & Sage"

My first plein air painting of '21; waves of sand & sage in the NW New Mexico high desert, cresting with the majestic La Plata Mountains in Colorado.  It was a windy, and chilly day, but I loved being out there in the wild, until a strong gust of wind threatened to blow us off that sandy ridge!  We scurried about quickly, getting packed up before the painting was finished.  I finished up at home from a photo I took at the last minute. 

I was hosting a paint out with the Plein Air Painters of the Four Corners....at this favorite place where I began to explore, first, when I was only 12 years old.

I've painted dozens of paintings from this varied and magical terrain.  We saw antelope grazing there recently.  When I was young, there were huge herds of them.  "Welcome home, my lovely beasts!"
